IH Credit Union — Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome to IH Credit Union's Frequently Asked Questions! Whether you're interested in becoming a member, managing your accounts, or learning more about our services, we're here to help. Browse the questions below to find the information you need.
Membership & General Information
1. Who can join IH Credit Union?
Becoming a member of IH Credit Union is easy! You automatically qualify for membership if you live, work, worship, or attend school in one of these eight Ohio counties: Clark, Champaign, Greene, Logan, Madison, Miami, Montgomery, or Union.
If you don't meet these requirements, you may still qualify for membership through the American Consumer Council (ACC) if you reside in an eligible state.
2. What is the difference between a credit union and a bank?
Unlike traditional banks, IH Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative owned by its members. Rather than focusing on generating profits for outside shareholders, we focus on providing our members with competitive loan rates, affordable financial services, and personalized service.
When you join IH Credit Union, you're more than a customer — you're a member and an owner!
3. How long has IH Credit Union been serving the community?
IH Credit Union has proudly served members since 1934! Originally established as International Harvester Employee Credit Union, we began by serving employees and retirees of International Harvester. Over the years, we've expanded our membership and services to meet the financial needs of individuals, families, and businesses throughout our communities.
In 2015, we officially changed our name to IH Credit Union to reflect our growing membership.
4. Can I keep my membership if I move or change jobs?
Absolutely! At IH Credit Union, we believe in "Once a Member, Always a Member!"
Whether you move, change jobs, retire, or experience other life changes, you can continue enjoying the benefits of your IH Credit Union membership, provided your account remains in good standing.
5. Is my money insured at IH Credit Union?
Yes! Your eligible accounts at IH Credit Union are privately insured through American Share Insurance (ASI) for up to $250,000 per account.
For additional peace of mind, IH Credit Union also provides excess share insurance through Excess Share Insurance (ESI), offering up to an additional $250,000 per eligible account.
That means eligible accounts can receive up to $500,000 in combined coverage per account.
Members' accounts are not insured or guaranteed by any government or government-sponsored agency. This institution is not federally insured.
